The Perception of Medan City Entrepreneurs on Bank Indonesia's Policies on Hedge (Hedge)

Introduction

In today's globalized economy, entrepreneurs face numerous challenges, including exchange rate fluctuations and other economic factors that can significantly impact their business. To mitigate these risks, entrepreneurs often turn to hedging, a financial strategy that involves reducing or managing risk by taking a position in a financial instrument that offsets potential losses. Bank Indonesia, the country's central bank, has implemented policies on hedging to provide entrepreneurs with the tools needed to protect themselves from unexpected market fluctuations. However, the perception of entrepreneurs in Medan, a major city in Indonesia, regarding these policies is not well understood. This study aims to analyze the perception of entrepreneurs in Medan regarding the hedge policy (Hedge) implemented by Bank Indonesia.

Methodology

This study used a descriptive analysis method to analyze the perception of entrepreneurs in Medan regarding the hedge policy (Hedge) implemented by Bank Indonesia. The population studied was imported and export entrepreneurs in Medan, with a total of 80 units. The sampling method used was purposive sampling, where the sample taken had certain criteria. Of the 80 units, as many as 30 entrepreneurs were chosen as respondents for this study. The data analysis method used was descriptive analysis.

Results

The results of this study showed that the majority of entrepreneurs in Medan had a positive perception and a good understanding of hedging policies. This reflects high awareness among business people regarding the importance of managing risks related to exchange rate fluctuations and other economic factors. The most common transaction was a hedging sales transaction, and the most widely used transaction method was the swap method. In addition, entrepreneurs generally relied on banks as the main source of information to understand the applicable hedging policy.

With relevant information and appropriate strategies, entrepreneurs in the city of Medan can play a more active role in the national economy, as well as add value to their communities and customers.

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Increase awareness about hedging policies: Bank Indonesia should increase awareness about hedging policies among entrepreneurs in Medan through various channels, including workshops, seminars, and online platforms.
Provide education and training: Banks and other financial institutions should provide education and training to entrepreneurs on hedging policies and methods to help them make informed decisions.
