Introduction

As we age, our physical, psychological, and social conditions undergo significant changes. The elderly often experience loss of jobs, life goals, and friends, which can lead to a higher risk of disease, social isolation, and feelings of loneliness. In this context, the relationship between family support and depression levels in the elderly is a crucial aspect to explore. This study aims to investigate the correlation between family support and depression levels in the elderly in North Sukajadi Hamlet, North Labuhanbatu Regency.

Methodology

This study employed a descriptive quantitative design with non-probability sampling techniques, involving 66 elderly individuals as respondents. The data analysis utilized the Spearman Rank correlation test to examine the relationship between family support and depression levels. The results showed that 32 people (48.5%) received good family support, while no elderly individuals were found to have severe depression rates. However, 28 people (42.2%) experienced mild depression rates. The analysis test revealed a p-value of 0.00, which is smaller than α (0.05), indicating a significant relationship between family support and depression levels in the elderly in the area.
