Introduction

In the Indonesian Lawyers Club (ILC) Talk Show program that is broadcast on TV One, often found the phenomenon of mixing code between Indonesian and English. ILC, hosted by Karni Ilyas, is an event that discusses legal and crime issues for 210 minutes and airs every Tuesday at 19:30 WIB and Saturday at 19:00 WIB. The phenomenon of mixing this code reflects the dynamics of communication in bilingual society in Indonesia, which is increasingly developing with the increasing number of English in various contexts, including celebrities and public figures. Code mixing is a common phenomenon in bilingual societies, where speakers switch between two or more languages in a single communicative interaction. This study aims to analyze the use of code mixing in the ILC program and its significance in the context of Indonesian society.

Code Mixing: Definition and Its Importance

Code mixing is the use of two or more languages in one communicative interaction. This often happens in daily communication, especially among people who master more than one language. In the context of ILC, code mixing is not only the use of foreign words, but also reflects a more relaxed and close way of communication between the presenters and the speakers, as well as the audience. Research Methodology

This study uses a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the use of code mixing in the two selected ILC episodes. From this analysis, the author found as many as 73 sentences that contain code mixing. In this study, there are five types of code mixing identified:

Insert Unit: insert words or phrases from English into Indonesian sentences.
Hybridization Unit: The combination of words from the two languages in one unit.
Insertion Sentence: use full sentences in English in the context of Indonesian.
Idiom and Collocation: the use of common expressions in both languages.
Reduplication: repetition of words that come from one of the languages.

Research Findings

From the analysis conducted, the insertion unit is the most dominant type of mixing code, with a percentage of 69.86%. Conversely, reduplication is the type of mixing code that is the least used, only 1.37%. These findings show that speakers at ILC tend to use words or phrases in English to clarify their ideas, create a more relaxed atmosphere, and as a strategy to maintain neutrality in the context of speaking style. The use of code mixing in the ILC program reflects the speakers' ability to adapt to different communication contexts and to convey meaning in a clear and effective way.
