Research Methodology: A Cross-Sectional Study in Singkuang Village

This study was a cross-sectional study conducted in Singkuang Village in April 2016. Data on menarche age was collected through interviews with young women and their parents. In addition, body weight and height were measured to calculate the body mass index (BMI). Symptoms of depression were measured using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale for Children (CES-DC) questionnaire.

Of the total 139 young women who have experienced menstruation, it was found that 16 young women with early menarche experienced 56.3% symptoms of depression. While of 117 young women who experienced normal menarche, 55.6% of them also experienced symptoms of depression. Of the 6 young women who experienced late menarche, the percentage showing symptoms of depression reached 83.3%. However, statistical analysis shows that there is no significant relationship between the age of menarche and the length of age after menarche with symptoms of depression, with a successive P value of 0.47 and 0.155.
